Toenail fungus, i.e., onychomycosis, is an ugly infection that affects many people, and it is not always easy to eliminate. Fotona’s ClearSteps™ onychomycosis treatment uses the Nd:YAG laser light to destroy the fungus in the nail by evenly heating the infected area. ClearSteps™ is administered in three steps:
(1) the nail is filed down to reduce its thickening so that the laser light can fully go into the infected area;
(2) the Nd:YAG laser is pulsed in a circular pattern over the whole nail causing a mild heating sensation; and
(3) the Nd:YAG laser is pulse-targeted around the perimeter of the nail bed and into the skin around the nail to ensure that the infection is completely eliminated to prevent recurrence.
ClearSteps™ therapy is typically administered once per week for four weeks. The laser is safe without adverse effects, and it is more effective than conventional treatments, such as topical or oral medications.
